  • Protection Against Ischemia/Reperfusion Heart Injury.
  • Lower Blood Pressure.
  • Both in acute perfusion experiments and in chronic models, tocotrienols attenuate myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury, artherosclerosis, and reduced ventricular arrythmias. Apart from the antioxidative role of tocotrienols, it appears that tocotrienols mediated cardioprotection is also achieved through the preconditioning-like effect, the best yet devised method of cardioprotection.
  • Tocotrienols rich factor (TRF) provided cardioprotection as evidenced by their ability to improve postischemic ventricular functions, improve electrical rhythm disturbances and to reduce myocardial infarct size.
  • Tocotrienols therapy will improve the long-term clinical outlook and survival of individuals with familial dysautonomia (FD).
  • Administration of tocotrienols to individuals with FD results in increased expression of both functional IKAP and monoamine oxidase MAO A transcripts in their peripheral blood cells.
  • Palm tocotrienols mixture was better than alpha-tocopherol in reversing the effects of nicotine on IL-1 and IL-6. Tocotrienols seemed to be superior to alpha-tocopherol in combating against the adverse effect of nicotine on bones.
  • Oxidative events may contribute to methylmercury (MeHg) toxicity (neurotoxic) in isolated cerebellar granule neurons, and that tocotrienols are potent supplements for pharmacological protection of the developing brain exposed to MeHg.
  • Tocotrienols supplementation reduces DNA damage in older healthy adults.
  • Tocotrienols elicit a dramatic mitochondrial destabilization followed by initiation of non-necrotic forms of programmed cell death, namely apoptosis and autophagy.
  • The observed improvement of plasma cholesterol, AGE and antioxidant vitamin levels as well as the reduced protein damage may indicate a restoration of redox balance after TRF supplementation, particularly in individuals over 50 years of age.

Tocotrienols – superior to tocopherols

Tocotrienols have powerful neuroprotective, antioxidant, anti-cancer and cholesterol lowering properties. Tocotrienols have more potent antioxidant properties than tocopherols.
